Port 725 Questions

Our previous email platform Smartermail allowed connections over port 725. This was a port that we allowed to be used in order to get around the common practice of blocking port 25; the standard port for sending email.

Port 25 is the default port used to transport or communicate email across the Internet using the SMTP protocol.
Many ISPs and broadband / cable providers now block or restrict SMTP connections on port 25 (the default port for SMTP ), the main reason for this is because when a computer gets infected by a virus it can be hijacked by the virus writers to send out thousands, if not millions of spam emails - the ISPs have to prevent this from happening and blocking the port is the only real solution.

Our new email platform, OpenSRS does not allow the use of port 725, but another combination of settings will allow you to send email without the commonly-blocked port of 25.

If you are using port 725 in your email client, you will no longer be able to send messages through our email server as of October 1st.
